About Shaw Lodge
History
The mills were founded in the 1820s by John Holdsworth and remained in the ownership of the same family until 2005, at their height employing 3,000 people. The main product woven at the complex was moquette, used for covering seats on trains and buses worldwide. It was a prestigious company and a world leader in its field. The last loom fell silent in September 2008.
Future
The owners envisage a transformation of the original complex into an Urban Village, generating new growth and a sense of community. We have begun this transformation with work now complete on two buildings. The historic character of the complex will be retained alongside new buildings to ensure the traditional elements of village life, to include houses and apartments, offices, a hotel, local shops, restaurants, a gym, workshops and perhaps a medical centre, are provided, with job creation being an integral aspect of the overall scheme.
Timing
The long term vision will be delivered in phases over many years with the aim to repopulate the mills and build a community site. New life will be breathed into the complex one building at a time.
